I second the gphoto2 thing.

gphoto2 --auto-detect --get-all-files

Or just get a card reader and save your camera batteries. I'm not too fond of my powershot either. One day, I was using the zoom feature and it just stopped allowing me to zoom. And you can't use the menu, and other things on the camera now. Although it still takes pictures, but you can't zoom or do anything, including the flash/bios upgrade because that part of the camera no longer functions. Something with leaving it
in the car overnight where it got cold, then taking it into
the hot and humid house to take a picture that caused this
headache, but still, I would hope for better design or construction.

And then there's my Canon MPC 5000 printer that doesn't even
have XP drivers. Or linux support worth a darn. But it still
does copies and faxes without being connected to the computer.
It would be nice to print without having to boot an old WinME
machine though.

I love my Canon S110. It had a problem early on that was fixed under warranty and has been reliable ever since. Up until I moved up to 64bit, it worked well with Linux. With a 256M card in it, it can hold hundreds of pictures - it only fills up when I'm on vacation.

Pictures are good even though it is only 2M.

I do have a card reader on my Epson Stylus Photo R300 printer, but I prefer to use the camera directly. I don't want to turn on the printer just to download photos any more than I want to switch to XP. :)

I note however that your MP C5000 is supported with the CUPS Foomatic drivers - for printing anyway.
