Hello,

You always have the option to download a non-bastardized original
from
ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/alpha/

compile it by your own and install it suid-root. Note that in contrary what
many uninformed people from Linux distributors claim, cdrecord needs to be
installed suid-root on Linux in order to work correctly.

I understand your point very well - but I also understand the point of
GNU/Linux distributors that they can't be up to date and agree with all
the 10^6 developers of all GNU/Linux components and their countless
opinions about release cycles, api changes and licenses.

There is a simple rule:

It doesn't matter whether you upgrade programs like "wc".

But: If you don't like to upgrade cdrtools, you must not upgrade the
Linux kernel too!

Well, you could tell the Linux Kernel developers not to introduce incompatible
changes....

And just a note on the Linux distributors: If they do not read the cdrtools
documentation and don't install cdrecord suid-root, you need to be prepared
that cdrecord does not work.

I am doing my best, but I need to get informed in case that there
has again been an incompatible Linux Kernel change... in your case,
I cannot say anything specific until you did upgrade to a recent version
of cdrtools. get it from:

ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/aplha/
