Although it's odd that it doesn't happen under windows.
Perhaps you have a heating/cooling issue? That's about
the only time something similar has happened to me.
Aside from a bad power supply. You might check your
fans. And use ACPI instead of APM if you're not
already. You might also try replacing the battery on
the motherboard, if it has one. Strange things have
been known to happen when those little batteries die.
