trying to burn with GSA-4167B and dvdrecord

I have dvdrecord (dvdrtools 0.1.3) and an LG GSA-4167B DVD writer. I am
trying to write to a DVD+RW. I issued:
dvdrecord -blank=all -dev=/dev/scd1
and it starts off blanking the disk and about 5 minutes into it
completely crashes the system. i mean EVERYTHING stops. I have to power
down and reboot (which my partitions just LOVE)

I am using RedHat 7.1 with kernel 2.4.20-28.7

I have had endless amounts of trouble trying to burn a dvd here... can
anyone help?
Thanks,
Pat
