Er, WTF? USB Mass Storage devices should all react in the same way to
BIOS requests. That is, it *should not matter* whether the device
you're trying to boot from is a 128M keychain drive or a 128G USB disk.
Maybe you'd better clarify this statement--post the exact error messages
you get, make+model of motherboard, etcetera.
I wondered if it was possible to use the external drive using a boot
manager on the main hard drive to load from the external drive?
The only way this'd be easy is if you had /boot on the internal disk and
/, /usr, /var, etcetera on the USB disk.
