P5LD2-VM motherboard?

No, but we have a P5LD2 SE running Debian Etch. We noticed no
problems, but we don't use this box as a server or in any other
serious Linux function.

I'd like to build a server farm

I would chose a board that can use ECC Ram for a server, e.g., a
975X-based or i3000-based board. The 975X has a PATA controller.
These are more expensive, though.
