Excuse me for my ignorance... I'm a n0ob of sorts. What do I want to use
in linux for the networking? Samba? can anyone help me of refer me to a
source please.
Samba... yes IF by 'networking' you mean you want the Linux box
to offer up file shares and print shares (the rest below do not
require you to setup a samba server, but may require the samba
libraries).
If you mean Remote Desktoping into the XP host, then you can use
krdc (KDE) or many other remote desktop tools (rdesktop, etc).
(no samba needed here at all)
If you mean you want your Linux host to access file shares on the
XP host, then those can be mounted via smbfs or cifs, depending
on the version of Linux you have.
If you mean you want your Linux host to print to printers on
the XP host, then you want to configure cups and define an
smb printer.
Obviously don't want to overload you with info... can you be
specific? I'm sure we can point you to a resource.
