I don't know a lot about [computers]. I have the oppotunity to buy a
cheap one with this motherboard from gigabyte: ga-k8n51gmf-9rh.
Does [anybody] know anything about the compatibility of this [board]?
Google says the board has an nVidia GeForce 6100/nForce 430 chipset with
onboard video. I didn't see what the IDE or SATA chipset was. Hope
it's not a VIA VT8251; those things are pretty cheap and have ... stupid
problems under Linux right now. The sound and NIC should work OK.
USB/Firewire is standardized so no problems there.
When it comes to hardware, in general, You Get What You Pay For. Since
the motherboard in x86 systems is the thing that's the most difficult to
diagnose problems with and the most annoying thing to replace, you
*never* buy a cheap-ass motherboard. Any $ you save on the initial
purchase will be eaten by time spent trying to make it work properly
later. BTDT. HTH anyway, bonne chance,

He wasn't there again today -- I think he's from the CIA.
