Hi,

I recently installed Ubuntu on my PC.
The install went OK, but now I want to get it a step further and check
if I can replace all Wxp apps I currently use.

I want to use a SIP softphone with a GN-Netcom GN-8110 USB digital
audio adapter.

As I am new to Linux, I would like to ask some help in this group.

I would like to get the USB headset up and running,
be able to send normal audio to my PC soundcard,
and send my phone conversation to the USB headset.
Can anyone here help me with this

If the Headset is supported, all you need is to plug it in,
anything else should be handled automatically for you.

When I do lsusb, I see it in the list of USB devices
marc@PCM1:~$ lsusb
Bus 005 Device 003: ID 0db0:4011 Micro Star International Medion Flash XL
V2.0 Card Reader
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 004 Device 002: ID 05a9:4519 OmniVision Technologies, Inc.
Bus 004 Device 003: ID 0b0e:444b GN Netcom
[..]
Good!

How can I choose to send audio do the headset instead of the soundcard ?

While it doesn't tell for sure it will work it is a good sign. You
should just be able to select it as audio input/output device
from the app you want to use.

Good luck

Using the Ekiga softphone, it works!!!! :-)
As I am used to having an USB plugin/removal sound in Windows,
I supposed Linux did not recognise the USB heaset and I needed to load a
driver.
It seems Linux took a big step forward in HW support comparing with a few
years back when I tried redhat linux, and went back to Windows
because I found it too difficult to use-finetune.
Kubuntu seems to do a good job now,
I think I'm going to keek using it this time.

3 more things on my ToDo list are
- PDA synchronisation (just installed Kitchensync in Kontact)
- Connect my synthesiser using USB midi.
- Install Asterisk PBX software
(just for the fun of it, I'm an Alcatel PBX expert)

Anyway, thanks for your help.
