Hi everybody,
thanks for your answers! These were very helpful. But I also talked to
some friends of mine in real life and got some warnings. I would like
you to tell me if this is really a risk or not.
It's all about the fact that the printer does not neither "speak"
PostScript nor PCL. As you said I will be able to print with it using
SPL through CUPS. I told this to my friends but they did not stop
warning me.
Will there be any disadvantages with a printer only speaking SPL? Will
printing of particular documents or printing in general be impossible,
inaccurate or slower? They especially noted that printing might be
inaccurate -- for example: You want to fill out the fields in a given
form and send it to the printer, but it won't print the labels on the
expected location. Is this is real risk under Linux? I hope this is
just an issue with those Windows drivers...
