USB-HDD: device resets

Hi!
I am using an external HDD which is connected to an USB 2.0 port. The
drive used to work flawlessly for quite a while now and still does so
when i am using XP on the very same machine.
Yesterday I noticed that the data transmission stalls as soon as i start
to read larger files from the drive. The kernel log says:
usb 2-2: reset high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2
This happens very reproducible (which means each time I try to copy a
file). I am using openSuSE 10.2, current patchlevel (kernel
2.6.18.2-34-default).
Can anybody explain this or tell me what to do to stop this (And no,
it's neither the cable nor the port, as nothing has changed here and the
hardware is working fine using XP)?
Regards
Christian
