nothing works on ASUS M2R32-MVP

I have an ASUS M2R32-MVP motherboard with SATA harddrives. I can't get ANY linux to install on it. Has anyone gotten ANYTHING to run on this board, with or without crippling boot options?
I have tried different versions of openSUSE, Fedora, and Debian. Even latest alpha versions. They either don't detect any harddisk, or hang. I even tried Arch Linux with 2.6.20 kernel. It crashes with a kernel panic. I have done alot of googling and I see a fair amount of people having the exact same problems with this board that I am. I have seen zero solid answers.
Sad thing is i've been trying to completely switch to Linux for years. This was going to be the big move so I bought (what I thought was) nice hardware to run. But these problems have been going on for over 7 months now so Im guessing that the community just doesnt have much interest in this board/chipset? Should I save my pennies for a different board and trash this sucker?
