I have an ASUS M2R32-MVP motherboard with SATA harddrives. I can't get
ANY linux to install on it. Has anyone gotten ANYTHING to run on this
board, with or without crippling boot options?
I have tried different versions of openSUSE, Fedora, and Debian. Even
latest alpha versions. They either don't detect any harddisk, or hang. I
even tried Arch Linux with 2.6.20 kernel. It crashes with a kernel
panic. I have done alot of googling and I see a fair amount of people
having the exact same problems with this board that I am. I have seen
zero solid answers.
Sad thing is i've been trying to completely switch to Linux for years.
This was going to be the big move so I bought (what I thought was) nice
hardware to run. But these problems have been going on for over 7 months
now so Im guessing that the community just doesnt have much interest in
this board/chipset? Should I save my pennies for a different board and
trash this sucker?
For AMD systems your best bet is an Nvidia Nforce based motherboards. The
Nforce chipsets work flawlessly with Linux. As someone else suggested
always check the customer reviews on Newegg before buying a motherboard.
If you don't see any mention of Linux in the reviews look at a different
board.
