It seems there was some kind of misunderstanding. By "multiprocessor
motherboards" I was referring to motherboards which can use more than
one processor simultaneously.

So, is there such a motherboard for AM2 processors?

The AM2 is the desktop socket, it supports one processor chip only. The
Athlon 64 X2 is a dual core processor so the limit of the socket AM2
boards is currently two cores. There will be a quad core A64 next year
which might plug into the current boards. It will be socket AM2+ but
there is some chance it will be compatible with existing AM2 boards.

If you want more than two cores in an AMD system today you'll have to
get an Opteron motherboard (Socket F) which can support between two and
eight processor chips. Intel has the QX6700 which is two Core2 E6700s
bolted together in the same package, that will give you 4 cores on a
desktop (Core2) motherboard.

That board is socket L1 which is really a Socket F. AMD is rebadging
Opterons as a high end consumer offering. This isn't the first time
they've done this. If you remember the first A64 was socket 940, it was
really an Opteron 1XX with the word Athlon stamped on top. They've done
exactly the same thing here. It's a 1207 pin Opteron with the work Athlon
stamped on top and aimed at the high end of the gaming market.
