"5.1.1 Problems with devices related to udev
Yes, that's a possibility. However, when I connect or disconnect my
digital camera there's no message at all showing up in my
kernlog/syslog. My understanding is that udev gets a
message from kernel if the status of a device changes, and since
there's no message, my problem seems not to be at level of the udev
interface file.
An obvious issue could be hardware and port. I tried another USB cable
with my camera and plugged it into a different port on my hub, but no
luck. I assume that external power to the camera is optional as long
as its batteries are OK, but the camera does need to be turned on to
be seen by the kernel.
If a module is missing, I'd be in trouble, but it seems I havce the
usual modules loaded:
$ lsmod | grep usb
usb_storage 71840 0
usblp 12768 0
scsi_mod 124168 6 usb_storage,sbp2,sd_mod,libata,
aic79xx,scsi_transport_spi
ide_core 110504 4 usb_storage,ide_cd,amd74xx,generic
usbcore 112644 5 usb_storage,usblp,ohci_hcd,ehci_hcd
When I go gphoto2 --debug --list-ports, and other commands, I get
lines like this:
Loading camera drivers from '/usr/l... |----------- / 51.7%
I've a question: now can drivers be loaded if the kernel does not know
a device has been added? I don't know what to make of this:
0.003992 main(2): + USB (libusb, for USB cameras)
0.004524 main(2): + serial (for serial cameras)
0.005060 main(2): + no resmgr (serial port access and locking)
0.005599 main(2): + no baudboy (serial port locking)
0.006136 main(2): + no ttylock (serial port locking)
0.006675 main(2): + no lockdev (serial port locking)
0.007312 gphoto2-port-info-list(2): Using ltdl to load io-drivers
from '/usr/lib/libgphoto2_port/0.6.1'...
0.007929 gphoto2-port-info-list(2): Called for filename
'/usr/lib/libgphoto2_port/0.6.1/disk'.
0.009980 gphoto2-port/disk(2): libhal: The name org.freedesktop.Hal
was not provided by any .service files
0.010311 gphoto2-port-info-list(2): Could not load port driver list:
0.'libhal error'.
I get the following debug:
...
1.447293 gphoto2-port(2): Freeing port...
1.447498 gphoto2-port(2): Closing port...
1.450752 context(0): Could not detect any camera
*** Error ***
Could not detect any camera
*** Error (-105: 'Unknown model') ***
...
As for unknown model, I've been using gphoto2 with my camera quite
recently, and so must assume the model unknown simply because it could
not be accessed.
Does it look like the camera itself may have a hardware problem?
