Re: Fuijitsu/Siemens Lifebook 4215 driver

I demand that Thomas Richter may or may not have written...

any ideas how to get the F/S Lifebook 4215 running under Linux?
Specifically,
[snip]
- the sound is dead. It is supposed to be an hda_intel sound, but
nevertheless, alsa reports "no such device". The kernel log reveals
"hda-intel: no codecs initialized",

Any messages about modem init failure? There were problems around
2.6.19/2.6.20 (IIRC) which would cause audio codec init failure unless the
modem codec is disabled. (I think that the parameter which is needed, if
that's the problem, is "probe_mask=1", but check with "modinfo
snd-hda-intel".)

but lspci reports the chipset as

"Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition
Audio Controller (rev 02)"

- Last but not least, wireless seems to cause trouble as well. This is
an (according to lspci):

intel PRO/Wireless 3945AGB Network Connection (rev 02)

Noting the later posting saying "Debian"...
# aptitude install wpasupplicant firmware-ipw3945 ipw3945d
You'll also want the ipw3945-module-* for your kernel (given a Debian-built
kernel) or ipw3945-source.

Alternatively, use a wireless tree snapshot and firmware-iwlwifi.

Either way, configuration lives in /etc/network/interfaces; you'll need to
use wpa_supplicant's "wext" driver. WPA2 works fine with this hardware.
