What you have encountered is the total stupidity of monolithic corporate
marketing departments. They will assimilate or die. It is not our problem.

Take that POS back and get a refund, and check out other brands first.
HP and Brother work fairly well. Check out the CUPS website to be
certain for your chosen model.

I understand that. I'm currently using a Brother HL1440 laser and an Epson
Stylus Photo R320 - both work fine, and both checked out before I
purchase. Just trying to find out if anyone has tried the Kodak
all-in-ones. I seem to recall from the web page that it does indeed
mention mac as well as ms - a good sign, but certainly not definitive.

Thanks for being kind, I didn't really know what level you are, but, you
are already points up for having logic on your side!

Some of the Brother MFC units are listed as partially do-able, but, had
to run a slightly older model CUPS driver. Have a Brother MFC-8500,
running on the MFC-8300 driver, and as all I really care for is the
Laser printer, is great for my purposes!

Then, too, Brother has huge site full of CUPS drivers. So, I also check
out if there is a support site for the maker, before I get a printer,
though I usually buy mine out of thrift stores for really cheap prices.
