USB Speakers detected as UPS.

I posted this to a Mandriva group and received no reply.

I bought a pair of USB loudspeakers - made for Windows, of course - and
Windows detects and configures them O.K. Linux however, including Knoppix
(which is the best with detecting audio peripherals,) detects them as an
UPS. Consequently, the Mandriva configuration won't present me with the
right wizard. What must I do to point Linux in the right direction?
