You don't mount a DVD to play it. You just tell the video player
which DVD device to use.

Can I do this across a network? The computer with the DVD drive is remote, and
has no graphical display. I currently mount the drive, and access the content
via a network share.

Others have already posted some solutions (such as using dvdbackup to make
a decrypted on-disk copy of the DVD), but it's possible that Linux's
network block device support would be helpful. From the kernel
configuration for this option (BLK_DEV_NBD, under Device Drivers -> Block
Devices):

: Saying Y here will allow your computer to be a client for network
: block devices, i.e. it will be able to use block devices exported by
: servers (mount file systems on them etc.). Communication between
: client and server works over TCP/IP networking, but to the client
: program this is hidden: it looks like a regular local file access to
: a block device special file such as /dev/nd0.

Consult the nbd.txt file in the kernel source tree's Documentation
subdirectory for more details.

In principle, this should enable you to treat a remote DVD drive as if it
were a local one. Note, however, that I've only briefly fiddled with
network block devices some years ago, and never with DVDs. (I was
experimenting with ways of performing network tape backups.) Thus, I'm not
positive that this would work, but I think it might. The main advantage
over making a copy of the DVD on your hard disk is that it wouldn't
require any disk space.
