Tam, never... ever... fsck a mounted partition. >:'O

Your best bet is "man e2fsck" or "e2fsck -h"

You should use the "-n" switch, until you're sure of what you are doing.
Using "-n" means "just testing..." and nothing is actually changed on the
partition. Once you have the switches figured out the way you want,
eliminate the "-n" switch and sit back and wait for it to complete.
Depending on the partition size and how corrupt it is... it can take quite
a bit of time to finish. Once done, you should be able to mount them as
usual.

I usually use: e2fsck -vp /dev/hdxx
