Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6 - Jmicron IDE controller troubles?

Hi:

I need a mobo for a new PC which has legacy parallel and serial ports as well as IEEE1394, eSATA, and an IDE/ATA header.

I have found these (based on the following Intel chipsets) motherboards:

P35:

Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6 (rev. 1.0)
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 (rev. 1.x)

975X:

MSI 975X Platinum V.2 LE

Intel D975XBX2

P965:

Asus P5B-plus
Asus P5B-E

It seems there is a chip by Jmicron to implement the IDE interfaces on most of these boards (since the newer Intel chipsets don't have the IDE intfc. anymore).

And some folks have had serious problems with this controller. I do a lot of backups to a DVD-RAM drive which has only an IDE interface, as well as probably planning to use CD/DVD rewriter drives that will likely be IDE rather than SATA.

I don't want to have problems with this.

What is the current status of this issue? I will likely install OpenSuse 10.3, but may want to use Win XP Pro sp2 as well.

Thanks.
