The /proc/partitions you posted also included a couple of LVM volumes
(or more accurately, device-mapper devices), dm-0 and dm-1.
Ah... I wondered what those entries were... thanks for clearing that
up. The OS must have done that by default when it installed. I chose
the default layout for partitioning up the drive.
Try running "file -s /dev/sdc2" and see what that
tells you.
Well it seems you were right Mans... output of file -s /dev/sdc2 is:-
/dev/sdc2: LVM2 (Linux Logical Volume Manager) , UUID:
V4TDXU65gWvTn1kweQVIiwzID 4PQ41O
Would it be possible to just format the drive and start again...
remove the existing partitions and just have one (as the 250gb one is
done)? How would I do that... I have set the layout and created
partitions using the install procedure (previous boss always wanted
things like swap on its own partition) but havent done it to an
existing system.
