Hello,

HOw USB is done on diffrent kernels ( 2.4 vs 2.6)? What is the difference?
Where USB support is better done.?or it's the same.

Thank you

My perspective is that USB on a relatively recent 2.6 kernel; say the
2.6.22 or so that Ubuntu ships with is vastly superior in terms of
support of devices, stability, etc. I use a USB external drive now for
backup and it works very well. That being said, everything may change
without prior notification and you may find out that a device that looks
perfect will not work. That just happened to me with an external drive
enclosure. On the other hand, my 5th generation 60g ipod video works
very well. I moved it over to using Rockbox because I got tired of the
endless syncing (feeling) using iTunes, Banshee, Amarok, GTKpod,
whatever. Now I just rsync music to it and it looks like an external
drive.

I don't remember the 2.4 kernel too well but I don't think USB worked at
the level it does now. Just like I somehow have forgotten what a modem
is and dialing strings, Hayes command sets, and dropped calls. Now I
just deal with wireless ESSIDs, encryption, card drivers. Did I say
things got better? Or just different...
