Does any one know of a good dial-up modem that will work with suse 10.2
(kernel 2.6.18.8)?
If you can get a hardware modem, then you don't need "drivers" per say.
But those are few and far between. I've had reasonable success with
lucent win-modems. 11c1:044e. More so than finding downloadable win95
drivers for my old modems, even those made for win95, that shipped with
win95 drivers. Connexants are alright, if you want to PAY for linux
drivers. But I've never been able to get a decent connect speed with a
connexant, in windows, or in linux.

(lucent/agere, there used to be a an LT_Modem driver, but it stopped
working about 2.6.15)

(connexant, but I've never made a connection greater than 26.4K with
one. In windows or linux. So the free but limited 14.4K drivers is
probably as good as it gets for those.)
Just make sure whatever you get is a v.92 modem. As that appears to be
the common and final protocol in use today. Flex / X2 / and even v.90
probably won't work well with most ISPs.
