This is entirely possible if your CPU cooling system (heatsink, fan,
thermal compound) is defective.
I just had the same problem on my daughter's computer and the fan was the
culprit. Fortunately I had a spare fan in the house (courtesy of some
CPU upgrading/shifting). Replacing the fan solved the problem.
