/most/ of us live in, there are far more 32-bit machines in use than
64-bit. And that's likely to be that way for a long, long time to come.
The op has a 64 bit machine. THERE ARE NO NEW 32 BIT MACHINES.
Since 2004 i386 has come to an end. Think about it and you'll get the
point.
?
Why can't someone run 32-bit if they choose? I do.
My machine (this one) is 64-bit. But I've had troubles with it on
64-bit. It runs beautifully with 32-bit. And I don't have to mess with
things like codecs and plugins.
I still have a Mac G3 running Debian. I have an old PIII running 32-bit
as a server. I have a couple of other older machines that I put to use
from time to time, including a 32-bit laptop that works just fine for
everything I need it to do.
I submit I'm not unique. I submit that, other than my running 32-bit on
a 64-bit machine, I'm in the majority. And I might even be in or close
to a majority by running 32-bit linux on a 64-bit machine.
Your statement that 32-bit is over (and you implication of the same wrt
32-bit hardware) is, to say the least, illogical on the face of it. If
it was true, there'd be no more advances in 32-bit distributions. Yet
there are almost daily announcements of updates to 32-bit releases on
distrowatch.com among other places.
Besides, linux and open source are about freedom. Telling someone to
_not_ run something just because someone doesn't agree they should is
anti-freedom.
