Has anyone found a fix for setting the screen resolution with
the nVidia drivers in Linux?
I'm having a lot of trouble trying to get Suse 10.3 with Gnome
2.20 to
display the 1680x1050@60 lcd screen resolution. It only works
with the DVI connection but when that's switched to a VGA
connection the resolution reverts to 1024x768@60.
The problem is not related to Gnome, it's just a X11/X.Org thing.
Probably the driver reads a wrong EDID from the monitor. Use
the "IgnoreEDID" option, to make the driver ignore any hardware
detection. Then hardset the resolution you want, eventually by
supplying own modelines.
Don't use SAX(2). IMHO this program creates the worst xorg.conf
files I can think of.
