I wonder how's ATI/AMD driver is since ATI/AMD's support is doing better
these days under Linux.

Improving. Current xf88-video-ati git has textured video support (but overlay
is still noticeably faster, at least on my X300).

I used an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro All-In-Wonder card (couldn't use its TV
stuff) during Red Hat Linux v7 days. I played Linux native games like
Quake 3 Arena and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Crappy driver and
annoying way to install and configure. :(

I need the OpenGL accerlation part so I can't use Intel's onboard and
stuff.

Why can't you? OpenGL on Intel graphics hardware works fine here...

Mostly for games, Google Earth, fancy 3D screen savres from
xscreensaver, etc.
