I have trouble waking up this motherboard with WoL. It seems to work
if I shut the machine down with the power button, provided I do it
before the boot loader starts. If I halt or poweroff the computer from
Linux, etherwake will not be able to wake the computer up.
This may or may not be of help to you. Back on 17 Dec 2006 dealing with
balky P5B Deluxes and RHEL 4 we wrote:
Unfortunately, the WOL kept getting reset after each reboot, so we put
"ethtool -s eth0 wol g" at the end of /etc/rc.local, which fixed that
problem. A few dozen reboots of various boxes assured us that this
bandaid is holding. REMEMBER THAT ALL THIS IS ON THE x86_64 SMP
PLATFORM, and the i386 versions may or may not have these irritating
problems.
They are now running RHEL 5 (with the same characteristics I might add)
and the same fix is working. WOL still requires "ethtool -s eth0 wol g"
in rc.local to restart via WOL.
