and the same fix is working. WOL still requires "ethtool -s eth0 wol g"
in rc.local to restart via WOL.
Thanks for the suggestions, but I don't think this is the issue.
At the moment I have the ethtool -command placed to /etc/init.d/halt
just before the actual halt, so it would (and will) run at all
halts. Infact, I think I've read the same account earlier, hence my
attempts regarding modifying the halting procedure. (The effect should
be the same no matter at which point before halt it should be
performed, but this way I ensure the effect isn't reverted by some
other piece of the system; for example, by module unloading.)
I've shut down the system with plain 'halt' too, which curiously also
performs powerdown, although they both seem to be handled by the same
init script, the powerdown case giving the switch -p to halt.
I tried running (per some suggestions) the kernel with acpi=off, but
that stops poweroff from working; with SMP system I don't think APM is
an option? Also, it appears to remove the capability to control the
CPU fan (with powernowd), which is a big minus.
