Thermostats & Home HVAC Control

Greetings,

I am working up a system to control my home's HVAC system. I have
something in mind for temperature sensing (one wire devices &
digitemp), but am wondering about the thermostat.

I thought I read somewhere there is a thermostat out there that uses
an X10-like protocol but is much better about message delivery and
command acknowledgment, in addition there exists a linux based
software package to support the thermostat.

In addition, it seems to me I have seen X10 controlled ducts, but
again am having a hard time tracking them down.

I have a regular forced air gas fired furnace & AC.
