So, for someone who wants to use hardware wave-table synthesizer on

one card to choose from.

The card is:

Creative Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 PCI Sound Card

It's a bit off-topic by mentioning Windows 7 compatibility, but I just
want to warn anyone who followed this thread, e.g. from Google: that
even the cards listed on Microsoft's Windows 7 Compatibility Center are
not always compatible.

Take the example above, I purchased Creative Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 PCI
Sound Card, exactly Model sb0220 as required by M$, and Windows 7 told
me the card is not compatible, the error message being very friendly,
that clearly state Win7 checked that the vendor already decided not to
release Win7 driver for this very product. A check on vendor's website I
found a few related drivers, none of them work for the given card. The
problem is finally solved by using kx3550 driver from
http://kxproject.com/, and even that driver doesn't work out of the box,
although configuration is as simple as setting output 4/5 as default
output channel.
