28 VDC? That's an odd voltage to find around the home.
How about 5VDC or 12VDC or 120VAC? If so, Plug computers which use
around 4 Watts at 5VDC internally (SheevaPlug) to around 8-10 Watts
at 5 or 12 VDC (GuruPlug and Open RD Client, respectively).

The SheevaPlugs run Ubuntu or Fedora typically, Debian on the
GuruPlugs, and anything on the Open RD client.
