Fact remains that most hardware IS NOT SUPPORTED, nor is that
shortcoming advertised to newbies.

It's precisely because I do get out that such boring trivia is unknown
to me. In any case, I am not getting XP on principle. I had hoped to
be using Linux instead, but since the majority of potential new users
with adsl can't even get on the net with the modems they have, it'll
have to wait until I upgrade my gear in a few years.

I have spent hours trawling the net for adsl modems supported by
Suse, and then checking the NG's to see the problems with the ones
which ARE allegedly supported. Looks like I'll have to buy a router
instead, and even that could be aggro.

I would have, if I had known that beforehand, it's not advertised.
Here's something that IS advertised: Linux is crap for new users.
Maybe I should have heeded that advice instead.
