Peter, from my understanding of the question, I think that he is not aware of
exact locations of the two versions and made the assumption that the new
version would simply 'upgrade' the older by removing and replacing the
appropriate files like windoze "appears" to do.

While the resolution to his actual issue may not be rocket science, his is
a common problem people have when making a transition from one OS to
another. I am new to Linux too, and there are a lot of questions that I
have had regarding installing programs, installing newer versions of
programs and getting rid of the crap that is left behind to save disk
space and try to keep my system as clean as possible. Unfortunately,
windoze makes it "seem" like the OS, or "Install Shield" is doing all of
this for you even though they don't. Personally, I read, read, read,
search, search, search as much info as I can before asking questions;
nonetheless, I still have questions for which I can not locate an answer
after dozens of hours reading manuals, web sites, help files, man pages
and the like.

I prefer to think that you genuinely want to be helpful as the
alternative would be that you simply want to rag on a 'newbie'
for his inability to ask precise questions in a 'language' he is
only just learning. Give the cat a break, will ya? I understand that if
the syntax of his question is not concise you may waste time answering the
wrong question and possibly lead him in the wrong direction. Even so,
there is a great thing we, as humans, have that the computers we use
don't. The ability to take something potentially vague...read between the
lines, and make a judgement as to what the other human with whom we are
interacting actually means.

Anyway...IF my understanding of the original question was right, I think
that VWakes has answered it.

Best regards,
