I'm thinking of winxp/2003 server versions. You can't do anything
worthwhile ( unless gaming is worthwhile) with the xp home. Those server
licences were not cheap. Hence my knee-jerk reaction to install linux and
move ALL of my important stuff ( coursework, email, web stuff, video
encoders etc. ) to linux. Games are still run on a win98 system,. Trying
to play Jane's F-18 or falcon 4 or jane's F-15 via VMWARE is not
recommended. Trust me :-)
And for the record, the reason I use linux is because I have a PF775
monitor that can -according to the spec- do 1280x1024@90hz. This
resolution/freqency was not selectable under windows without me having to
delve into the windows driver-development-kit. In linux, all it took was
googling and putting in the necessary values into a web based modeline
generator and presto! 1280x1024@90hz.
That, and the fact that I can burn a cd at 8-12X without overburn
protection while watching an avi file off the same hard disk or off the
network.
And the fact that automating things is a breeze.
And...
I could go on, but you get the idea.
By the way, my initial response was meant to be a counter-goad to our
friendly troll here. I don't suppose it worked. Excouse me while I have a
simpson moment here.
