Hello,
I'm trying to get onboard sound working on my Epox 8RDA3+. It has an
NForce2 chipset and a CMedia sound chip. I'm using Debian Woody, with
kernel 2.4.20 (soundcore and intel8x0 sound compiled as modules).
Besides, I've installed ALSA 0.9.8 from source tar.bz2, following the
install instructions on
http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-php/template.php?company=Intel&card=i820&chip=i820&module=intel8x0.
All modules are loaded successfully (AFAICS).
So far, this is working:
-sound via arts (from KDE), using OSS or ALSA for output
-mplayer with -ao alsa9
-xmms with arts output plugin
So ALSA is working - somehow...
The problem is that with alsamixer, I can only mute or unmute the PCM
channel. Raising, lowering or muting the Master volume has no influence on
sound, and the PCM channel has no volume control, but only mute.
So my only way to control volume is by using the knob on the speaker :) or
by using arts for sound output and controlling volume via artsmixer...
In mplayer or xmms I can't use the volume or balance controls, they have no
effect.
Has anyone already configured Linux to work with alsa (and alsamixer)?
Another thing I'd like to get to work is OSS emulation, so that I can use
/dev/dsp while playing sound via alsa/arts. But this is another thing; the
volume control is much more important.
It would be really nice if someone had an idea how to solve the problem.
Thanks in advance,
Oliver Gerlich
