As a former developer (docs and packaging) I'm not sure myself. The core
developer (Adrian Feiguin) was doing a major rewrite for GTK2, and to
tidy up the core of the code. There was also talk of GNOME using SG as a
plotting component.

Anyway, this was all being done by Adrian, one man already busy with
other stuff and he wasn't submitting the code to the CVS repository.
There were regular promises to release a tarball of what he'd done, but
they never appeared from what I remember.

I think in the interim, the other developers (with jobs and studies of
their own to get on with) lost interest as the core project had totally
stalled. Docs were going nowhere as the UI etc were about to radically
change.

That's the problem with a lot of OSS projects; they're manned by a scant
few people and it only takes one or two to have other commitments or
lose interest for the project to die. The code's still there in CVS if
anyone wants to look at it. If you're interested maybe you should mail
Adrian

adrian@ifir.edu.ar
feiguin@magnet.fsu.edu

and find out what's going on.
