how could I make the root window transparent in KDE?

I run Windoze on my desktop plus X Win 32 for an X Server. I log into KDE on
out server thru xdm. I made the setting "No wallpaper" in KDE on most of my
desktops.
With no wallpaper setting for background I still get that stupid gradient
background overlapping the contents of my Windoze desktop.
Is there any way to prevent KDE from messing with the root window in X?
I want to see the icons on the Windoze desktop.

Thank you.
