Cable modem speed has exactly the same speed/throughput issues as thick
or thin EtherNet. You are 'sharing' a piece of copper with other
network nodes (other cable modem customers on your 'block'). If no one
else is using the bandwidth you get all it to yourself. If everybody
else is also using the bandwidth you get 1/Nth of the bandwidth (N ==
total number of concurrent users).
