I have a Linksys BEFSR41 that, except for a move & (previously) one lockup
because of a configuration change that didn't complete properly, has been
pretty much up & running for the better part of three years. Until this
past June (my move), I've had all four ports connected to varying flavors
of Win-whatever. Right now, it's just my box, which is dual boot, mostly
in MDK 9.2. I've used both Konqueror & Mozilla to access the router's
config pages -- no problems.
Just to balance that, I have a friend who switched to the D-Link
equivalent, which he says has more config/security options.
I mentioned the lockup. At the time, I was running just Win98SE. And, at
one point, Linksys offered (through the firmware) to integrate with the
ZoneAlarm Pro firewall &/or PCcillin AV, with a config page to input the
license codes. Nowhere in any of the promo emails or on their website did
they have the foresight to tell you that the license *MUST* be bought
through Linksys, not direct, and that the "wrong" valid license code would
trash the router. Fortunately, it wasn't permanent -- a hard reset brings
it back to the default settings, requiring the user to do his/her personal
setup, again. But most people don't require too much change or additional
setup from default. So, the process doesn't take very long. But Linksys
customer service, at least at that time, did not leave me with a warm
fuzzy feeling that they really were there to help the customer.
