Hi guys

I am a newbie having some problems getting connected to my WWW server on my
intranet. It has its own IP addresses, no DHCP, WINS or NT domain servers.
It will never be connected to the internet.

What I have is a running Rh7.3 installation on my Linux box, and a WinXP
laptop. I also have Apache installed and running on the Linux box.

I can ping both machines from each other, and I have managed to get Samba
working - I can share files across both the WinXP and Linux system, send
them back and forth etc.

My Apache is working - if I go to http://127.0.0.1/ on the Linux system, I
get the standard Apache "placeholder" page that shows that the server is
working.

HOWEVER:

My problem is that I cannot access the http server on the Linux box from the
Windows machine. The Linux box has an ip of 169.254.255.20 - going to my
WinXP laptop and typing

http://169.254.255.20:80/

in IExplore just brings up the window that says that the "Host is
unavailable when offline" and gives me an option to connect to the
Internet. Thus, my Windows machine is either not connecting to the Linux
box's httpd, or the httpd refuses to respond to a http request from the
Windows machine.

So, I have surmised that something must be wrong at the Linux end of the
setup. I have a standard Apache 2.0.48 build. I have made no changes to the
vanilla httpd.conf that came with Apache except for

ServerName 127.0.0.1:80

and

AddType application/x-httpd-php .phtml .php
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps

Since I can ping back and forth AND use Samba successfully - is the problem
some kind of network issue with Linux? Or is the problem Apache?

How can I access the webserver running on my Linux box from my Windows
machine?

Any replies appreciated!

Thanks,
