I had trouble with evolution. First, since the developers really, really
want you to use their whole "desktop" package, installing it w/o the
desktop is convoluted. Second, it is red-hat specific, and I could not
find a version that ran after my last update (I use debian). It has
serious bloat issues as well.

So I am now using balsa (gnome based). Still it wanted me to install the
whole gnome nine yards, but I could work around that. It seems much less
bloated, measured in terms of ram occupied. It also seems more stable,
and some things, like use of multiple address books, is really quite nice.

My requirements are that it work with my university's IMAP and LDAP
servers. The IMAP server is secured, and many do mail clients can't
handle that. balsa does, nicely. Mahogany did not. It (balsa) also
fails to display some of the graphics-heavy spam, which is a plus.
