Audio question: line in quits working under 2.6 kernel (ALSA)

I'm finally making the switch to the 2.6 kernel (2.6.4 to be exact).
I'm using Mandrake 9.2 and I have an ASUS A7N8X (rev 2.0) motherboard
which has an nForce2 chipset. The switch to 2.6 was mostly painless
(now that I've dumped my ATI graphics card in favor of an NVidia) but
now my line in isn't working on my sound card?

I download gnome-alsamixer and unmuted/muted/unmuted and adjusted
every volume setting to make sure they were all initialized properly.
I have a D-Link USB FM Radio plugged into a USB port and into my
line-in. It has worked just fine under Linux for the last 6 or so
months since I bought it. And it appears to still be working just
fine under the 2.6.4 kernel as I can bring up my radio application,
change radio channels, and so on... but my sound card acts as though
the line-in is muted. I'm out of ideas on this one and am hoping
someone can help me. It's really dumb - but this one thing could be a
deal breaker for me regarding the 2.6 kernel because I listen to my
radio all day. And to be honest, I haven't seen any speed increases
or any other noticeable improvements. Never-the-less I'd like to get
this working if I can because the 2.6 kernel is obviously going to be
the new standard in every new distro coming out this year.
