sis900 / dsl / mandrake / configuration

Has anyone else had problems getting their Linux to connect to the
internet? I'm dual-booting XP-pro and Mandrake with Lilo, sis900
ethernet adapter, Westell Wirespeed 210015 and Verizon DSL.

I've consulted the 'ethernet howto' and the man pages for modprobe,
dhcpcd, ifconfig, dhclient and dmesg. The line 'alias eth0 sis900'
appears in modules.conf.

I'm betting that someone out there can do this blindfolded. Any help
for this newbie would be greatly appreciated.
