You've got that backwards. As with any troll, the endless 'discussions'
are ends in themselves. They continue until those who feed the troll
tire or get distractedand stop responding. The troll does not care
whether you agree or disagree or what you say, but only whether you
respond.
And of course, the difference between those who knowingly feed trolls
and trolls is only in their minds. From the outside, trolling, troll
baiting, and debunking trolls is all the same.
