I know, how can we live without it? Nobody liked that, but RH dropped
support for mp3 long ago, for legal issues.
No need to patch and recompile though, others have done that already.

http://ayo.freshrpms.net/redhat/9/i386/RPMS.freshrpms/
There's versions for other rh flavors, including fedora.
