Hello Sanjeev,
Sanjeev! What is this? You`ve written about hacking (ref.
Hacking_Sanjeev.doc) and now you`re asking what todo with RedHat 9.
-;)
Nevertheless, som ideas below
==============================
0) I would have installed Fedora-Core-1, It is the free version of
redhat-10 so to speak. Mandrake10 is also very prof.
Ref. http://www.futuredesktop.org/how2burn.html#mirrors
1) Learn to use rpm, apt-get and synaptic (or yum)
These tools make package and software installations very easy.
2) Install media (music and video) tools with codecs.
xmms
mplayer (gmplayer)
xine
3) Install latest gimp 2.0 (painting tool a^la Photoshop) and learn to
use it. I can only the [Filters..] tool which is fancy.
4) Security: Have iptables or any other firewall running.
Install "kate" editor (for KDE) or "gedit" (for GNOME)
emacs and xemacs are good to have. ahmm, Need to learn them first.
Programming:
============
a) Learn shell scripting (bash). Some knowledge is very important.
Learn the most important shell commands like: mv, cp, find...,
chmod, dd, etc.
b) Learn (basics) of gcc and g++ (C and C++ programming)
c) Choose your primary language for system and app development.
Choose:
PERL or
PYTHON or
RUBY
I like Python because it`s immensely powerful yet easy to learn.
Choose also a preferred GUI-toolkit library (QT, GTK, wxWindows, Fox)
d) Off and go mister.
All the best
Cheers,
moma
