That was it! (or rather vfat, as Dances said). I don't know
that it would ever have occurred to me to try one of those; I
thought digicams would have their own filesystem, like CDs do.
But it makes sense when I think about it -- vfat is sort of
the lowest common denominator; just about everyone can read it.
