unable to open /dev/dsp

When I try to record with gnoise I get the following message:

"OSS Error:

unable to open the /dev/dsp device and set the requested modes. Perhaps
another program has the device open. "

I have not other audio programs open.

How can I rectify this problem?

I am using Debian Testing.
